In an invitation for the snowflakes to melt away, Netflix announced that if you’re a woke employee you need to ply your trade of intimidation and safe spaces at another employer. With Netflix shedding subscriptions faster than a NASCAR track, they are trying to find ways to reclaim lost market share. One of the plans is to offer a lower cost subscription plan for budget conscious subscribers that would include limited intrusive advertising. However, with subscribers sickened by entertainment companies jamming their uninformed progressive morality down their throats, there are probably a good number of people canceling because of the insanity of the childish left.
Much of the brouhaha emanated from Netflix workers’ reaction to the Dave Chappelle comedy special in which he cracked jokes about transgender persons. His monologue insulted the sensibilities of the sensitive slackers who worked at Netflix. The company stood behind Chappelle and his show which, in turn, solicited a walkout by the more delicate of their employees.
In a memo to all staff, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos said that every opinion mattered.
The memo as reported in the Daily Mail:
‘Entertaining the world is an amazing opportunity and also a challenge because viewers have very different tastes and points of view.
‘So we offer a wide variety of TV shows and movies, some of which can be provocative.
‘To help members make informed choices about what to watch, we offer ratings, content warnings and easy to use parental controls.
'Not everyone will like — or agree with — everything on our service.
'While every title is different, we approach them based on the same set of principles: we support the artistic expression of the creators we choose to work with; we program for a diversity of audiences and tastes; and we let viewers decide what's appropriate for them, versus having Netflix censor specific artists or voices.'
It adds: 'As employees we support the principle that Netflix offers a diversity of stories, even if we find some titles counter to our own personal values.
'Depending on your role, you may need to work on titles you perceive to be harmful. If you'd find it hard to support our content breadth, Netflix may not be the best place for you.'
Just over a month ago, Substack, where I ply my trade, made the same decision.
Netflix hasn’t had a great reputation with shows like Cuties, which depicts young girls dancing in highly provocative routines. It caused such a stir that Texas sued Netflix concerning the over-sexualization of children. Netflix stood behind its decision to air the show; that may have contributed to the loss of some subscriptions in the past.
Another reason for lost subscribers could be that people are no longer holed-up in their homes due to the Covid overreaction by Fauci & Co. and realize they don’t need the service anymore. And of course the Disney-DeSantos battle over Disney’s wokeness may make many CEOs rethink their woke positions.
All the same, congratulations to Netflix for keeping the freedom of expression open. Hopefully, it’s a start. Keep pressuring the companies you do business with to stop the insanity. I don’t care about the personal/political/cultural opinions of human resource departments and corporate boards. Just shut up and sell me what I want. Leave the moral and political opinions to the consumer.
Go woke, go broke.
